CT Scan | Primescan Radiology
A CT (computed tomography) scan uses X-rays and a computer to build detailed cross-section images of the inside of your body. It is quick, precise and very effective for finding injuries, infections, tumours and other conditions, including in emergencies.
- Head and brain: stroke, head injury, bleeding, tumours, infections, hydrocephalus
- Abdomen and pelvis: appendicitis, bowel disease, liver, pancreas, kidneys, abscesses, cancer staging and follow-up
- Other: CT-guided procedures, dental and 3D reconstructions
- Chest: lungs, infections, nodules, masses, HRCT for interstitial lung disease, pulmonary embolism (CT pulmonary angiogram)
- Angiography: brain, neck, chest, abdominal and limb vessels
How it works
You lie on a table that slides through a large, open ring-shaped scanner. The scanner rotates around you and takes many images in seconds. A computer combines them into clear slices, which a radiologist reviews. The scan itself usually lasts only a few minutes.
